The new mustang, despite the auto press hailing it as “European,” is still an American car

Avalanche gray is an amazing color though

Why is it that American cars have excessive panel gap?

Though they’re not as bad as the current Mustang or Focus, my 06 Mazda3 (pretty much a Japanese-built MkII Focus) has worse panel gaps than pretty much every car I’ve compared it to, including my sister’s 07 Sonata. Even for a car built in Japan by a Japanese company, Ford panel gaps are inescapable.

It’s seeming to be an intermittent yet common problem for some 350s if the forums have anything to say. Idk if the bumper clips, which I presume are the same as the regular Mustangs can handle the extra weight of the 350's diffuser and fake exhaust tips lol. Here’s the rear of my Boostang for example with no sag or gaps:

Also Avalanche Gray is indeed awesomesauce.

My 350 doesn’t have that, but there is a noticeable gap on the hood/fender gap.

Odd, kind of disappointing that they don’t have a handle on the panel gaps

How do you like the 350? I’m pondering my next cool car

For some reason American manufacturers are really bad at either design tolerances, tooling tolerances, or assembly/jigs. It took them decades to figure out how to install trim straight, for one glaring example. Now that trim strips are no longer in vogue, they still fail at panel gaps...

Both S550s I’ve owned had all kinds of panel gaps. The current one has an especially bad one at the to of the driver’s door

That’s interesting that as good as it’s supposed to be they still can’t make them right.

I saw a new gt on a dealer lot that had a big smear of glue on the inside of the rear windshield

They could probably charge $15k more at each trim level and make them right, but we get what we get at the price point.

Lack of avalanche gray on American Fords makes me sad. I love that color
